Southern Mayonnaise Rolls – in 20 minutes!

This recipe is a fabulous one passed down from my Grandma to my mom and finally, to me!  Although they might sounds strange, these rolls are FABULOUS!  The title gives away the secret ingredient, but these rolls in no way taste like mayonnaise.  The mayo just works as a binder- like eggs or oil would do.

Southern Mayonnaise Rolls - Ready in 20 minutes

What I love most about these rolls, other than that they are delicious, is that they are so simple to make and unlike other dinner rolls, they can be whipped up in about 20 minutes.  That makes them a fabulous addition to any meal, even when you’re pressed for time!  These rolls will not disappoint.

Even my husband, who will not touch anything with mayonnaise with a ten foot pole, loves these rolls.  I made them for him without telling him what was in them because I knew if I told him he wouldn’t even try them… he hates mayonnaise that much.  He was shocked when we finally told him that they had mayonnaise in them.  Now he requests them, but he asks that we don’t remind him that they have mayonnaise in them! LOL.

You can make these with any flour you have – the recipe originally called for self rising unbleached white flour.  You can use freshly milled wheat {to make them fit your clean/real food diet} or all purpose flour to make these.  Just be sure to add 1 1/4 teaspoons of baking powder and 1/4 teaspoon of salt to the ingredients so they will rise!

  1. Wow, so simple, so convenient! I’ll have to try these! I wonder if there’s a way to make them whole wheat? (LOL, this is pretty much what I think every time I see a bread or roll recipe!) :)

    • Update: made these rolls (stuck with the recipe for now) for dinner, my husband also hates mayo with a passion, but he proclaimed these the best biscuits EVER. Wanted them again. Thanks again for the recipe, this is sooooo easy and actually helped me out in a pinch. :)

These are so awesome! I’m teaching my eight year old son to make some cheesy ones now, after the regular batch turned out TERRIFIC! Thanks for sharing the recipe.

  3. One of my friends post a link to this on Facebook and I’m curious to know, does it matter what kind of mayonnaise you use? In my experience with it, not all brands taste the same. lol

I use Kraft, JFG, or Dukes (because that’s the brands I like/prefer) but I really don’t think it matters as long as you use the brand that you like. (:
