Little Green Pouch Apple Beet Sauce from WholesomeMommy.com

These pouches + this recipe for Apple Beet Sauce is a great heart healthy combo to share with your valentines….big and little!

Beets are EXTREMELY nutritious so they make a great early food for little ones. Beets are high in potassium, magnesium, fiber, phosphorus, iron; vitamins A, B & C; beta-carotene, beta-cyanine; folic acid and more!  {Beets are particularly beneficial to women whom are pregnant, as the vitamin B and iron are very beneficial to new growth cells during pregnancy and replenishing iron in the woman’s body}.

Beets contain betaine, the same substance that is used in certain treatments of depression. They also contains trytophan, which relaxes the mind and creates a sense of well-being, similar to chocolate. Beets can also lower your blood pressure, lower your risk of some cancers, and cleanse the blood and the liver…pretty powerful stuff! {Source}.

When combined with apples, beets become a dynamic heart-healthy duo!

The best part about this recipe is that it is totally “tweakable” – you can add more or less of the beets to your taste. If beets are a new veggie for your family you might want to start with half as much as this recipe calls for and then work your way up. :)
