Rio 2 Family Movie Night with Gourmet Strawberry Popcorn Recipe

This shop is part of a social shopper marketing insight campaign with Pollinate Media Group, Pop Secret, and Fox Entertainment, but all my opinions are my own.  #pmedia #PopForRio2 http://my-disclosur.es/OBsstV

My kiddos {ages 5 and almost 3} have been highly anticipating the release of Rio 2.  Our original plan was to pick it up July 15th  at our local Walmart and then enjoy it as a family movie night on the weekend but we decided that it would be more fun if we invited a couple of other families to enjoy it with us.  We decided to have them over for a theme dinner to build the excitement and then make some special gourmet popcorn to make the evening just perfect.

Before the guests arrived, I printed some Rio 2 coloring sheets. I placed them on the kiddy table along with some new boxes of crayons and invited the kids to color while I finished getting dinner on the table.

A theme dinner isn’t necessary, but it sure does make it more fun!  It didn’t take any more effort really to think of dishes that would go with our tropical movie and everyone really seemed to enjoy it.  If your kids are older, it would be a lot of fun to get them involved and have them help you plan and prepare the meal.  You can see the details of our meal in this post along with some of the recipes.

Once we cleaned up dinner, I made a big pot of strawberry popcorn. We used Pop Secret homestyle popcorn. You can grab a coupon for your box here {while supplies last}.  The kids loved it…especially my girly girl who requested for me to make more “pink popcorn” the next day. :) You can get the recipe below along with our chocolate variation.  As many times as I’ve made these flavors for my kids and their friends, there is never a morsel left!

The Rio 2 movie was so good! Even the adults enjoyed it. The music in this one was my favorite part – Bruno Mars!  I especially loved when Nigel {the bad guy} sang “I Will Survive.”  I won’t give away the whole story line, but I highly recommend this as a family movie. It was one that kept all ages entertained!

Here’s a sneak peek of one of my favorite scenes!

We had such a blast during the whole evening!  I really love making a big deal out of things with my kids and friends. I just love making things a bit more special for everyone. Everything in this post really didn’t take any more time or money than usual, but it made the evening a lot more memorable for the ones I love.   But, regardless of how you choose to enjoy the movie with your loves, it’ll be time well spent. So grab your movie and some popcorn, family time is the place where memories are made. <3

  1. Where can we find freeze dried fruits? I would love to make more things with all varieties. For example, we love apple oatmeal, but i hate how expensive it can be. And i really want to start making our own granola bars-there’s so much junk in boxed ones.
Thanks for all that you do!

      Steph,
I found mine at Walmart. It is where the dried fruits are, like raisins, etc. There is always an even larger selection of odd varieties at Whole Foods/Earth Fare and similar stores.
