Real Food Recipe: Orange Hot Chocolate

Orange Hot Chocolate From WholesomeMommy.com

It is FINALLY cooling off around here.  I look forward to cooler weather SO much! Why?  Its all about the food.  I love soups, stews, casseroles, comfort food, baking cookies, hot tea, cider, and of course, HOT CHOCOLATE.  Not just any hot chocolate will do.  I’m a fanatic for fruit and hot chocolate – flavors like raspberry hot chocolate and orange hot chocolate are perfect pairings.  It’s a favorite way to wind down a day for me.  I love to sip a big cup of hot chocolate while I’m writing and working online after the kids have gone to bed.  But, I also like to fix a big beautiful cup of hot chocolate to my kids on a cold morning – with lots of fresh whipped cream and cocoa dusted on top!  It is a great way to get my kids to drink more milk – an important part of their REAL food, clean eating “diet.”

I’ve got a recipe for you that is perfect for a cold morning, an evening all to yourself, or even beautiful and fancy enough to serve to guests at your next winter party.  The base is raw, whole milk. Trust me.  Even if you can’t get your hands on raw milk, you are going to want to use WHOLE milk.  It makes it so creamy … and dreamy.  In fact, this cocoa is so delicious, while I was working on the photos for this post, a couple weeks after actually making the cocoa for my kids, they saw me editing the photos and they asked for more cocoa.  This morning as I was wrapping up the post, my daughter spotted the photo over my shoulder once again and asked for…more cocoa.  It is so good ya’ll.

This beautiful and delicious cup of cocoa gets its over the top glam from Simple & Crisp orange dried fruit crisp. These beautiful little crisps can be used in savory or sweet dishes and you can see tons of ideas at their website.  These crisps come in apple, pear, and orange and can be paired with cheese, hors d’oeuvres, used as a dessert garnish, beverage accompaniment or anything in between.

Simple & Crisp dried fruit crisps are hand made in Seattle, Washington and are gluten free.  They are the perfect serving vessels and a healthy cracker alternative too!
