Kool Aid Watercolor Painting

The kids and I have been having a little fun around here.  We’ve been home looking for fun {and frugal} things to do that both kids can enjoy.  With a 4 year old and a almost 2 year old, sometimes that can be a challenge.  Eliana {the almost 2 year old} wants to do everything big brother can do, but sometimes that frustrates Judah -especially when she wrecks his things.

Finally, after a little thought and some packets of Kool-Aid that I received from Walmart, I decided to whip up some quick watercolors…and the best part – they are scented!

I used some little solo portion cups that I picked up at Walmart to mix the paint in {we love these things and use them for EVERYTHING}.  I just put in a Tbsp of the drink mix and mixed it with 2 to 3 Tbsp of water.

I gave the kids a handful of paintbrushes and a stack of big paper and let them go to town.  {Word of warning – Kool-aid STAINS.  No worries, it washes off in the tub after a good scrub, and it came out of their clothes with just regular detergent.  BUT…it will not come out of your wooden porch without some sanding.  Especially RED. Trust me.  Of course, I wouldn’t know anything about that.  {I learned the hard way!}

So, step one… send the kids out into the YARD or cover the paint surface with a drop cloth {like an old vinyl shower curtain}. :)

The kids had a BLAST painting the pictures.  And, once Eliana had poured out most of the paint, the kids had fun stepping in it and making colored foot prints!  LOL. The fun NEVER ends here.

We don’t drink Kool-Aid at my house – I’m not a fan of the food dyes.  But, we TOTALLY use it for craft projects.  I LOVE the bright colors and it is great for dying yarn, making scented playdough, and or course making fun scented paint!
