Homemade Cream of Chicken Soup

cream of chicken soup

Have you been trying your best to kick the processed foods out of your house? Are you a Southerner that likes your “cream of something” soup? I mean come on, there are about a gazillion recipes now days that call for at least one can of Campbell’s Cream of Mushroom or Cream of Chicken Soup. It seems that any short cut family meal must contain at least one can of soup.

Have you read the label? Have you been avoiding it on purpose? :) Don’t go hide under your bed! I confess! I confess! I was also hanging on to my beloved cream of something soups! It was just so convenient and the thought of going an extra step to make my own made me sweat. I just knew it would be difficult and time consuming.

Well, I am about to show you the magic behind the curtain and you are going to be so surprised! I’ve been making my own for a while now and I haven’t been buying it in a can…and I haven’t missed it.  Why?  It is REALLY simple! And, what is better, it only takes a couple of ingredients you probably already have on hand. Are you as excited as me!? You can finally kick that can to the curb! Processed foods be gone! Real food tastes good and is good for you!

  1. Wanted to let you know that I used this recipe last night and it was wonderful!!! I had wanted to try it, but wanted to use up my cans first. I had family coming and was in the middle of cooking when I reached for the cream of chicken soup and kept reaching because I had ran out and did not know. I started to freak then remembered your post. I ran back to the pantry after pulling up the recipe, gathered all the ingredients and proceeded to make the soup. It was an absolute hit!!! My family said the Hash brown Casserole actually tasted BETTER than normal and I know it had to be because of the soup. Thank you for all you do and for helping others such as myself make changes in our lives!!

This makes me so happy! I am so excited that you tried it and had such good success! I love to hear these types of stores {and fails also} so I know what worked and what didn’t. That helps me to know if I need to change things, or give you more of the same!
Thanks for taking the time to comment.
And hooray for successes in the kitchen. :)

  2. Can you tell me aprox how much a batch makes in oz, etc. can it be frozen or stored for later use too? Thx!

  3. Can you substitute 1 or 2% milk for the whole milk?
