Homemade Chicken Rice a Roni {copycat recipe}

This recipe was a first for me. I have had Rice A Roni and just haven’t had it much since we kicked processed food. But, when I went to try to make it myself – from REAL food ingredients, I was AMAZED at how cheap and easy this food is to make from simple ingredients you already have right in your pantry.  It is almost magic how a few simple ingredients make this well known dish.

Do you see that picture? It even LOOKS like the boxed stuff! It tastes the same too – but without any weird ingredients that you can’t read.  In fact, all you need is some white rice, some angel hair pasta, a bit of butter, an onion, and some chicken better than bullion chicken paste.   Here’s how to make it come together…almost like magic.

      It is a chicken base/paste that you can purchase almost anywhere. I prefer the organic variety if you can get it.

  2. When does the onion go in?

  3. Yum! I’ve been making my own ramen noodles with angel hair pasta. LOVE me some better than bouillon, oh and kitchen basics broth.

  4. Wow! Made this last night…tasted EXACTLY like rice-a-roni! That’s the one processed food I have really missed, although I wouldn’t mind a substitute for lasagna hamburger helper!! Thank you..we all enjoyed it!

  5. Have you tried making this with beef base for the beef flavored rice a roni?

    • Denisesawyer says:

      I haven’t yet! But, I’m sure it would work. :)
      If you try it I’d love to hear your results!

    What changes need to be made for brown rice I wonder? I haven’t bought white rice in forever. Thanks!
