Grilled Nectarines and Plums with Almond Cream

I had a rare opportunity to meet Chopped Champion {the Grilling edition}, Chef Ernst Servantes.  He along with a team from Western helped to prepare our lunch while I was in Arkansas  with Walmart.  I picked up some pretty cool tips for grilling and smoking and learned about some new products available at Walmart.

We recently purchased a smoker so I couldn’t wait to pick up some of the Western wood chips to use. I also learned that you could smoke food in a gas grill with a little smoker box – so if you don’t have a smoker, no worries! I picked up a bag of Western’s apple wood chips and cherry wood chips that I can’t wait to experiment with .  I plan to use the apple for chicken and the cherry for beef.  If you aren’t sure about which flavor woods to use with which types of food, I found this article super helpful.

One of the items they prepared for us was grilled peaches. They were so delicious! I couldn’t wait to come home and make my own spin on grilled fruits.  To see the original recipe they made for us, go check out Tina’s recipe for Grilled Peaches at Mommy’s Kitchen.   If you want to try a new spin, check out my recipe for grilled nectarines and plums with almond cream, below.

Grilled fruit isn’t new to the grilling scene, I’ve been seeing grilled pineapple, stone fruits {anything with a pit}, and even watermelon for a couple of years.  But, it is becoming trendy! And, it is super easy to do!

Why would you want to grill fruit?  It brings out the natural sugars and makes the fruit much sweeter tasting.  Sweeter – without sugar. Sound good to me! Elevate grilled fruit by piping some almond cream on top with a icing bag and wow your guests into thinking your a chef! Simple dessert that doesn’t require heating your house with the oven…sign me up!  Gee wiz folks, it’s HAWT in Georgia!
