Fun Chemical Free “Jelly Soap” for Kids

Jelly Soap

Looking for something fun to do with you kids?  Judah and I had so much fun making this “jelly” soap made from all natural, chemical free ingredients! It is wiggly and jiggly just like Jell-O.  So much fun to play with and it makes a great sudsy soap for washing up too!

My kids LOVE bubbles, bath crayons, and fizzy bath bombs, but I HATE that most commercial products contain icky chemicals and unnatural fragrances.

If your children have sensitive skin you probably have already been told {by a pediatrician} to avoid soaps with fragrances.  But sensitive skin or not, you should avoid soaps with fragrances for your kids AND yourself!

Why You Should Avoid Bath Products with “Fragrance”

Fragrance“: is a catch-all term can include hundreds of chemicals and trigger allergic reactions. Skip products that use the term “fragrance” in the list of ingredients and instead opt for those that list each fragrance ingredient.  Ingredients can have harmful contaminants: Many common ingredients can contain impurities linked to cancer and other health concerns. {Environmental Working Group, Skin Deep Database}.

To see a list of all the ingredients you should watch out for download this handy pocket guide from the Skin Deep Database.

But, I LIKE the Pretty Scents…

If you’ve been use to using products with pretty scents you may be a little let down by the fragrance free soaps available.  Just because you are avoiding chemical fragrances doesn’t mean you have to avoid sweet smelling soaps all together.  One option is to buy soaps that are scented with essential oils.  Another option is to scent your own fragrance free soap with essential oils yourself.  Essential oils don’t just smell great… they have added health benefits – some have antiviral, anti fungal, and antibacterial properties.  Some scents we like are grapefruit, orange, lavender, patchouli, and jasmine.

Judah and I used almond scented Castile soap {the same soap I use in my 5 minute chemical free laundry detergent!  How’s that for getting a bang for your buck!}.  To bump up the flavor profile I added a bit of almond extract…right from my spice cabinet. It smelled lovely like cupcakes!

  1. Ahhhh, this is such a cool idea! :) Thanks for sharing! I bet you could add in some essential oils too, maybe Lavender to get the kiddos sleepy & ready for bed! Thanks for your awesome idea!

Absolutely!!! I have used my Young Living essential oils of this too! We’ve made many batches {at their request} after I originally shared this recipe! Glad you like it.

  2. Awesome! I can’t wait to try! :D

  3. If it gets ‘snotty’ when sitting, could you thin it out a little and use it like shower gel? I LOVE almond scent and used to be able to get almond scented shower gel, but can’t find it any more.
Also wondering if you could use it as shampoo.
