Food Lion’s New Coupon Hub – A Give Away

Do you have a certain store you shop at ALWAYS?  Do you shop multiple stores each week for sales or are you a one store where I can get it all kind of shopper? I tend to be a mixture of both. Sometimes I shop multiple stores for sales {and more frequently because one store doesn’t carry EVERYTHING I need}.  And some weeks, I am overwhelmed, short on time, and just need to go to one store and get it and go.  But, whatever my method, I am always on the lookout for sales, coupons, deals, and the lowest price. So, when Food Lion asked me to review their coupon portal AND offered to give you guys some gift cards, I was all in.

Food Lion {see store locator here} is a local grocer where I live.  They haven’t been known for having the cheapest price or the best coupon policy or for carrying a lot of organic selections in the past. But, maybe we’re about to see some of that change.  They’ve just released a whole new “MVP coupon hub” right under the “Saving and Promotions” tab, where you can see the weekly flyer, sign up for cash back on with a savings star account, see the current promotions, and even load coupons right to your store card {known as the Food Lion MVP card}.

The MVP coupon hub is a place where you can load coupons to your store card – making it easier to use coupons for those who don’t have time to clip them, don’t receive the newspaper, or forget to bring them once they’ve spent the time clipping them {doh!}.  There are coupons for both national brands and for the Food Lion store brand. The MVP coupon hub won’t be replacing paper coupons though, which is good news for those of you who like clipping. You can use both.  You just won’t be able to stack them on one item.

Here’s an example of what I mean:

  • You CAN use a e-coupon on your MVP card for $1 off Hunt’s tomato sauce and a paper coupon for $1 toilet tissue in the same transaction.
  • YOU CAN’T use an e-coupon on your MVP card for $1 of Hunt’s tomato sauce and a paper coupon for $1 off Hunt’s tomato sauce for the same tetrapak or can of tomato sauce. {That is what I meant by stacking}.

To see Food Lion’s full coupon policy, go here.

I tried the MVP coupon hub out for myself to see how the process worked. First, I went to “Savings and Promotions” on the Food Lion website. Then, I clicked “Coupons.”  Once I started browsing the coupons and clicked on one, it prompted me to sign in. Since this was my first time, I set up an account which only took about 2 minutes {including time to hunt my MVP card!}. Once I was all signed in I was able to click on the coupons I wanted added to my MVP card and it automatically loaded them to the card.

Once at the store, I just picked up the items on my grocery list, handed my MVP card to the store clerk/cashier, and the coupons were automatically applied to my bill.

If you’re ready to sign up and get started saving with your MVP card, you’ll be excited to know that Food Lion is hosting a “Save to Win” sweepstakes until Tuesday, March 4.  During this time period, Food Lion will select 8 winners for a $25 Food Lion gift card (to be loaded onto their MVP card) for visiting and experiencing the “Coupon Portal” by clicking a coupon to their MVP card.  Also during this time period, a grand prize winner will be selected to receive $1,000 loaded onto their MVP card to use for their grocery purchases.

In my area we’ve seen more and more stores drop their double coupon policies where they would double the value of the coupon up to $0.99.  Its unfortunate, but the reality is, it is even more important to stay aware of sales, shop with a list, and take advantage of things like ecoupons. Eating local, in season produce will also save you money as will purchasing more REAL foods and cooking from scratch and staying away from high priced processed foods.  If you need help with your grocery budget, check out my REAL Food on a Food Stamp Budget meal plan series where you can get free meal plans, grocery lists, and prep lists to help you stay within a tight budget and still eat more REAL food.

And to help you get started saving more money, I am hosting a give away for 4 Wholesome Mommy readers to win $25 Gift cards to Food Lion. Each winner will receive their own $25 gift card to use in the store at their next shopping visit. Here’s what you need to do to be entered to win:
