Easy Clay Jewelry Craft for Kids – A Cabin Fever Buster

After all this cold and snowy weather we’ve had the kids and I decided to do a little crafting to help us cure our cabin fever.  Getting busy on a fun craft really helps pass the time for the kiddos and me! And, my kids are crazy about making crafts…especially if it involves play dough .

We actually used the Crayola air dry clay {Model Magic} that we bought at Walmart, and some stamps that we already had around the house. We also picked up some inexpensive pony beads and some stretchy jewelry string at Walmart to string our newly made charms with.

First, I gave the kids small pieces of the clay to roll into a ball and then flatten into disk shapes.  We used white clay. However, the Crayola Model Magic comes in many colors.  The kids used dinosaur stamps and a initial stamp to press into the clay.  I used a toothpick to make a small hole in the clay charms so we could string them later.  {Don’t forget this important step!! Once they dry it will be impossible to make a small hole in the tiny charms that is required to string them!}.

We let the charms dry for 24 hours before going on to the next step.  After the charms were dry and hardened, we strung the charms with pony beads on the stretchy string to make necklaces for them and some cute and sentimental key chains for me and daddy. :) They turned out really cute and will mean so much knowing my sweet little 5 year old made them all by himself.

This was a fun project that we enjoyed doing over the course of two days – just for fun. But, these would certainly also make great gifts for a grandparents birthday, mother’s day, father’s day, or even a sweet just because gift!  Its also a cheap and easy craft to do with a big group of kiddos especially when you purchase the materials at Walmart.
