You Shall You Shall Not Worship The Lord In That Way
I hope that as you have read the previous chapters you have been able to grasp the depth of the deception the enemy has sewn into the very fabric of our customs, traditions and heritage. Even the names of the months and days of the week on our calendars with its names of pagan gods and goddesses demonstrate the prevalence of this deception. As the Lord begins to open your eyes to the truth you will become more and more aware that the United States is not as much of a Christian nation as we would like to think. My prayer is that your heart will be broken for the nation and the church and you will begin to cry out to God in repentance and for deliverance.
II Chronicles 7:14 is a very popular verse quoted, as people desire revival in the church. It states:
If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven and will forgive their sin and heal their land.
This scripture outlines several steps. We must be humble. We must pray and seek God’s face. Then once we hear from Him we must be willing to turn from our wicked ways. Notice He says THEN He will hear from heaven, forgive our sin and heal our land. We have been thirsting for revival but we have not had the wisdom to know how to turn from our wicked ways. God has shown us throughout scripture that the idolatrous practices are wicked but Satan has kept us lulled to sleep about these things. We have had eyes that don’t see, ears that don’t hear.
In the Book of Revelation there are three of the churches mentioned that provide some insight regarding this darkness that has crept into the church. In chapter 2 verse 6 Yeshua commends the church of Ephesus because they hate the deeds of the Nicolaitans; which He said He also hates. The church of Pergamos (v. 15) was guilty of having those who held to the doctrine of the Nicolaitans in their church. The church of Pergamos also had some that held to the doctrine of Balaam. Verses 14-16 explain that the doctrine of Balaam, which caused the Israelites to stumble, is the same doctrine of the Nicolaitan Church. Yeshua also tells the church of Pergamos that He hates this doctrine of the Nicolaitans. He said in verse 16, “Repent or else I will come to you quickly and will fight against them with the sword of My mouth.”
To the church of Thyatira, Jesus is against them for tolerating “the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess” (Rev 2:20). She had been teaching and seducing God’s people to commit sexual immorality and eat things sacrificed to idols. These were the some of the same sins that Balaam taught the Israelites. The judgment Yeshua decreed to the followers of Jezebel is for repentance or death.
The Book of Numbers, chapters 22-31, details the account of Balaam. He was an unrighteous diviner who was hired by Balak, the king of the Moabites. Balak wanted Balaam to curse the Israelites in order to prevent them from growing so strong in number and driving the Moabites and the Midianites out of their land. God would not allow Balaam to curse whom God himself had blessed. Balaam did, however, council the Midianites how to weaken the strength of the Israelites by causing them to sin against their God through the worship of the Midianite gods. He instructed them to send their daughters to seduce the Israelite men and then threatened to leave them and return to their families. The Israelite men desired to marry the women and agreed to worship their gods in order to have them as wives. The historical account recorded by Josephus tells us that the men were so fond of the Midianite women that they
“…gave themselves up to what they persuaded them, and transgressed their own laws, and supposing there many gods, and resolving that they would sacrifice to them according to the laws of that country which ordained them they both were delighted with their strange food, and went on to do every thing that the women would have them do, though in contradiction to their own laws; so far indeed that this transgression was already gone thought the whole army of the young men, and they fell into a sedition that was much worse than the former, and into danger of the entire abolition of their own institutions; for when once one youth had tasted of these strange customs, they went with insatiable inclinations into them (Josephus Antiquites of the Jews 4:126-30).
All three of these churches are guilty of combining the worship of God with idolatrous practices, a thing that God abhors. He said in Deuteronomy 12 that we are not to worship Him in that way. Interestingly, the term “Nicolaitan” is derived from two Greek words-Nikos meaning “to conquer” and Laos meaning “the laity.” Thus, literally interpreted “to conquer the laity.” The church must get free of the “Nicolaitan” spirit and repent for combine the worship of God with the worship of idols. Yeshua made it very clear that this type of church would be His enemy in the last days. I am sure that you, like myself, do not want to be Yeshua’s enemy at the final battle. What a twisted, sickening deception to be believe that you have been worshiping God only to determine that you have been conquered by Satan’s deceptions.
At this point I would imagine that you are feeling a mix of emotions just as I did when Yeshua opened my eyes. At first it will seem a difficult task to turn from these ingrained customs and quite honestly not everyone you love will be willing to hear the truth. Many will be offended by you simply because you will make them uncomfortable as they continue in their idolatry. It is recorded in Luke 12:51-53 that Yeshua said a hard saying to his disciples:
Do you suppose that I came to give peace on earth? I tell you, not at all, but rather division. For from now on five in one house will be divided: three against two, and two against three. Father will be divided against son and son against father, mother against daughter and daughter against mother, mother-in-law against her daughter-in-law and daughter-in-law against her mother-in-law.
This truth will be evident to you as you determine to follow Yeshua and leave behind the pagan customs we have all inherited through the early church’s apostasy, compromise, and anti-Semitism that is so evident in the syncretism of our present day church culture. Yeshua provides encouragement to those who are willing to take refuge under his wing. Mark 10:28-30 states:
Then Peter began to say to Him, “See we have left all and followed You.” So Jesus answered and said “Assuredly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or brothers or sisters or mother or wife or children or lands, for My sake and the gospel’s, who shall not receive a hundredfold now in this time-houses and brothers and sisters and mothers and children and lands, with persecutions-and in the age to come, eternal life …”
As you embrace the truth and turn away from idolatrous holiday customs I encourage you to study about the feasts of the Lord. There are several excellent books on the market that will help you to understand the fullness and prophetic significance of these holy days unto God. You find that rather than giving up so much you have embraced a wealth of new truths and reasons to celebrate the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The book of Zechariah chapter 14 reveals that the feasts will still be significant when Yeshua returns to rule the earth during the Millennial Reign. God said these were to be perpetual feast, forever unto all your generations, even unto the gentiles that He has so graciously engrafted into the rich heritage of His chosen people.
A word of caution I must extend to you in this quest- the Jewish people adopted and perpetuated a great deal of pagan customs and traditions. You will need to exercise wisdom and discernment, for every Jewish customs is not necessarily from God. May God richly bless you as you seek His Light and seek purity and prepare to be part of his spotless and holy bride.
And what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For you are the temple of the living God. As God has said:
“I will dwell in them and walk among them I will be their God. And they shall be my people. Therefore Come our from among them and be separate, says the Lord. Do not touch what is unclean, And I will be a Father to you, And you shall be my sons and daughters, says the Lord Almighty.” (II Corinthians 6:16-18)
